14s Girls First Ever 15-Aside Full Match
On Sunday 13th the U14 Girls made the journey to Winchmore Hill for a very exciting occasion. Their match against Old Grammarians would be the first 15-a-side match that any of the girls had ever played, and would be the first time in 8 years that Ealing Girls Youth side had participated in a full sided match. The Ealing girls joined up with their cluster partners at Richmond and all donned the new Ealing Girls Youth tops in which to play their first game together.
The girls came out of the blocks quickly, scoring from their first passage of play and by the end of a rather stop-start first quarter, they had run in a further two tries.
The second quarter was where the girls pulled away from their opposition, scoring 5 tries, including catherine’s solo effort from her own half, Iga and Sofia both dotting down from close distance, and Bella’s second of the day, capping off a great sweeping team move as the girls moved the ball through the hands from one touchline to the other.
The third quarter was a fairly tight affair, with OGs outscoring the girls two tries to one, although they acquitted themselves well, again looking to move the ball quickly through the hands. Defensively the girls performed well, with strong counter-rucking and a certain try-saving tackle by Cameron the stand out highlights.
The final quarter was mostly spent in the OG’s 22, with the girls spurning a number of chances close to the try line, but OG’s unable to clear their lines. The game rounded off with a second try for Iga, a just reward for a darting run and reach for the line
What was really pleasing for the coaches was how the girls gelled so quickly with their new team mates from Richmond, even more impressive as they had only had one training session together.
Final score Ealing / Richmond 55 – 15 Old Grammarians.
Thanks as always to the coaching staff, parents and the girls themselves on what was a momentous day for the Girls Youth Section!
