On Sunday 16th March the Ealing Trailfinders Girls Youth Section Under 12 and Under 14 teams were invited to play in a 10s Festival prior to the Allianz Women’s Professional Rugby (PWR) Grand Final at StoneX Stadium. Both of Ealing’s teams performed admirable and scored some cracking tries on the hallowed home turf of Saracens. The Ealing Girls came up against new opposition and some very handy sides from right across the country – sides from feeder or associated clubs representing the 9 PWR clubs. The Ealing Under 12s played against: Old Northamptonions, Suffolk, Dronfeild and Manchester. Meanwhile the Ealing U14s encountered Woodford, Leicester Forest, Chester and Northampton side Bugbrooke.

The Ealing girls and their families stayed on to enjoy the StoneX Stadium matchday atmosphere and watch the exciting PWR Final between reigning champions Gloucester-Hartpury and Saracens Women. Two lucky Ealing Trailfinders players (Isabella B and Isabella M-C) were nominated to meet and walk out with the PWR players through the Guard of Honour and onto the pitch. The halftime entertainment also had an Ealing element to it as Trailfinders Women mascot ‘Bella the Bear’ was in attendance and ran in a hilarious halftime PWR Mascots Relay against the mascots from the other 8 PWR clubs – Sharky from Sale Sharks won! Trailfinders Women’s Bella the Bear was powered by Rugby Commentator and Social Media personality Elma Smit.

A great day was had by all and the pre match 10’s Festival and PWR Final (won by Gloucester-Hartpury 19-34) will hopefully inspire further uptake in the Women’s and Girls game. Get Involved in Girls Rugby at Ealing Trailfinders here: Ealing Trailfinders Girls Rugby
