Our 14s undertook a ‘eco-friendly’ away day to Blackheath RFC via public transport on the Elizabeth Line, opening up a new frontier(!) for fixtures.

A great turnout, with the Bs winning the opener and the As losing narrowly.

It was run like a military operation – somehow everyone managed to get on the same train, starting from Hayes, with lots of car sharing to get the kids to the stations going on 😊

Brilliant idea from Kevin and an amazing organisational achievement 👍 Kids looked like they had fun too 🏉

A long awaited local derby for the U12 Trailfinders girls who travelled to our neighbours at Wasps on a blustery Sunday afternoon.

We were fortunate to be on their 4g pitch as the grass pitches had seen a lot of activity at the Wasps Minis festival earlier that day and were ‘heavy’!

It was again a story of a slow start from Trailfinders girls, allowing Wasps’ left wing to score a first half hat-trick.

Trailfinders came back strongly in the second quarter when the accuracy of their passing game, intensity of carrying and some impressive breakdown work allowed them to establish their superiority and they never relinquished the lead – landing their first victory over a tiring Wasps team 19-17.

The team spirit on show, delight on faces and noisy celebrations reflected just how far the team have come in their first season together.

Yes Budgy Smugglers are back and Ealing branded sets are on offer!

Ealing Trailfinders Girls took on their 4th competitive fixture against Eton Manor with an early start on Sunday 18th February. After a great pre match chat from Trailfinders Women and England Red Roses player Liz Crake, it was genuinely a game of four quarters with neither side able to really establish superiority.

Eton Manor ran in 5 tries in the first quarter while Trailfinders Girls had their customary slow start; only to strike back with 6 tries of their own in the second quarter after some excellent work from Catherine G who contributed a hat trick of tries in a matter of minutes. The key change in fortunes can be attributed to some aggressive tackling and breakdown work when everyone had finally woken up!! The loan of several key Trailfinders Girls players (who all contributed to their guests play) meant Trailfinders Girls eventually succumbed to a 13 -11 defeat – with a couple of late scores from Eton Manor’s player of the match making the difference. The game was again very competitive and played in great spirit. Both sets of players shared food and drinks in the clubhouse before we restore ‘hostilities’ at the Eton Manor U12s Girls Festival in a couple of weeks time.
