U14 Ostend Rugby Tour: Belgians, Beers & Big Wins

The coach rolled out of the main carpark at 5am sharp Saturday am—some parents barely awake, others already dreaming of Belgian beer (dreams that swiftly became reality).

There was a brief stop at Clacket Lane Services to purchase an inflatable dinosaur (why?) before we embarked on our ferry to Calais. The rugby? Three games, three wins: our boys meant business. Grit, graft, and just the right amount of grunt. Contested lifting lineouts were no bother for the boys despite only a couple of weeks practice under their belts. They played their hearts out and came home unbeaten, including a 33-0 win over Sevenoaks RFC.

The hospitality? Let’s just say the two Belgian host rugby clubs redefined the word. From post-match feasts to pitch-side banter, they welcomed us like old mates.

A marvellous weekend all round—great rugby, great company, and just a few sore heads on the coach home. Same time next year?
